Old postcard of a Cross Channel Ferry departing from Folkestone Harbour. Can't quite read the vessel's name - if you can recognise the boat or can tell me the approximate date please comment.

A container ship and a fishing boat thread through the channel, with Cap Gris-Nez in the Pas de Calais in the distance. As seen from the cliff-top at Dover.

The last of P&O's 'European' class of Freight Ferry to remain in near 'as-built' condition, seen approaching Dover. Towed to Turkey Jan 2022, future unknown.

... with long and laborious passport controls by both the French and the UK authorities, just one day after the Brexit vote.

The early 1970's saw new chunkier shaped ferries appearing on the Dover-Ostend rout, 'Prins Philippe' in 1973 and 'Prince Laurent' in 1974, with bow and stern doors and a step-change in vehicle carrying capacity.

 

'Prins Philippe' seen here entering Ostend, in almost-new condition. The Sealink / RMT logos didn't improve the looks.

 

I believe this is 'Prins Philippe' due to the original paintwork, which dates the photograph to about 1973. Soon after, possibly at the guarantee dry-docking, the white paintwork was taken down a further deck and the 'Sealink' logo reduced in size.

 

Sold to Italy in 1986 becoming 'Moby Love', then to Greece 1993.

A ship with a complex and chequered history, now in New Zealand.

On the Bretagne Ferry crossing from Portsmouth to St Malo in France

Ferry Maersk-Dunkerque de la Norfolk-Line, en provenance de Douvres, parvenant au port ouest de Dunkerque, kitesurf sur la plage de Petit-Fort Philippe.

I suspect Prince Philippe. One of 2 new passenger ferries produced in the late 1940s for the Belgian Marine Administration, seen here on the Ostend-Dover route, departing from Ostend.
